Abstract
The aim of this chapter is to offer a perspective on the dynamics of interaction in modern societies which is in many respects complementary to ‘liquid modernity’. The revisiting of Zygmunt Bauman’s grim diagnosis of the social realm will enable to reconceptualise liquidity as one of the poles between which social reality is prone to oscillate and to explore the set of principles upon which the non-liquid constructions are premised. The emerging ‘soft’ organizational discourses in general and Organizational Spirituality (OS) in particular, will be discussed in terms of the possibility to enact the re-solidification in the heart of modern institutions. In these discourses, the liquidity-evoking ‘softness’ appears to be an intermediary stage in the process of rediscovering the grounding for metaphysical certainty and consistency of social bonds enabling to re-embed the social in a strong ideological framework.
