Abstract
Bracey was invited by the curator Adam Carr to make a new piece of work for this exhibition, a re-structuring of an earlier exhibition, namely Post it at Floating ip gallery, Manchester in 2004. The exhibition strategy involved an investigation of alternative modes of display, including asking each artist to produce new work on a post-it note, as well as the use of alternative exhibition spaces. At the ICA all public spaces were utilized while the galleries remained empty, questioning where and how art should be seen. which This was an integral part of the galleries wider programme of “engaging with seemingly unorthodox exhibition formats that explore curatorial issues and aims to support young and emergent tendencies in contemporary visual art.” Bracey produced a new piece for an ongoing series of work collectively titled 100’s and 1000’s, which include canvas paintings, paper collages and sculpture. The series questions modes and formats of presentation of paint, and notions of continuing abstract painting language. The exhibition toured to Midway Contemporary art in Minnesota and is “A nomadic exhibition under permanent construction, each presentation gathers new meaning from its context.” The curator is currently investigating new international venues for the exhibition, where each institution affects and changes the display and context for the work. Other exhibiting artists included Lawrence Weiner, Dave Beech, Liam Gillick, Jim Lambie and Jan Christensen.
