Abstract
Six cases of disseminated intravascular coagulation in the horse are reported. They were characterized clinically by severe subcutaneous edema of the head and neck, and clinicopathologically by abnormal partial tromboplastin and prothrombin times, a thrombocytopenia and an increase in fibrin degradation product concentrations. Various etiologies played a role in the pathogenesis of the condition including African horsesickness, babesiosis, lymphosarcoma and verminosis.
