Abstract
The chapter presents analysed data from the ESRC funded Pedagogic Quality and Inequality in University First Degrees project. It utlises the analytical potential provided by Bernstein's concept of 'pedagogic rights' and demonstrates how the process of neo-liberalism in universities miscasts students as consumers and has the potential to undermine universities educational potential for disadvantaged students.
