Abstract
Lloyd George's Land Campaign of 1912-14 presented Conservatives with a dual ideological dilemma: how to separate out the party's involvement with landlordism from its wider concerns; and how to respond to a popular programme of social reform. Neither element could be easily resolved and Conservatism's difficulties in responding to the Land Campaign were important elements in the party's problems in the pre-World War One period.
