Abstract
Chapter in the extensive book 'The Exorcist: Studies in the Horror Film' edited by Professor Danel Olson. In this chapter the classic horror text 'The Exorcist' (William Friedkin, 1973) is approached as a conservative motion picture that seeks to restore confidence to middle-class American viewers vis-à-vis its depiction of characters saved (figuratively and thematically) by faith in Christian dogma and the family unit as well as a better tomorrow.
