Abstract
The natural building movement has been developing techniques and practices that meet the aspirations of contemporary architecture which seeks sustainable, socially relevant „3R‟ (Reuse –Reduce – Recycle) ways of
building. The movement has been promising a revolution and healthy cheap homes for everyone. This begs the
question: Why is the movement still so marginal? Why is it not more influential? This paper attempts to map
problems that the movement faces by identifying potential challenges and analysing critical comments, statements
and narratives from the people involved in this movement. Selecting only critical narratives is intended to
form an invitation to discuss ways the natural building movement could promote its valuable ideas and techniques
in a more effective way.
