Abstract
This chapter examines approaches to assessing the quality of engagement and its impacts, the development of a benchmarking approach, and an example of its implementation in the city of Melbourne, Victoria. In this context, benchmarking is a technique developed to allow comparative assessment of university strategies for engagement, the emphasis being on the provision of information into a learning or development process focused on improvement.
