Abstract

No one expects a lorry to travel as far as a mini for a given amount of fuel. Unfortunately the same recognition is not given to housing, in particular for tenants who have little choice of the house type and heating system allocated to them.
Birmingham MDC's tenants live in dwellings where the 10% least thermally efficient are five times harder to heat than the 10% most thermally efficient.
These findinngs emerged during an analysis of Birmingham's housing stock but the results are likely to be consistent for other local authorities.
