Abstract

Non-epileptic attack disorder (NEAD) poses diagnostic and therapeutic challenges to neurological and psychological professionals. Existing theories suggest that non-epileptic seizures may be related to an individual’s non-recognition of internal affective states. However, one of the challenges associated with this line of inquiry is demonstrating the potential influence of constructs that are hypothetically outside of an individual’s awareness or willingness to report. Implicit measurement methodologies have yet to be used in seizure research. This on-going study aims to improve differential diagnosis and offer a novel relational frame perspective on the psychological mechanisms underlying NEAD.
