Abstract

This paper looks at the relationship between playwriting and devising, as well as 'the academy' and the 'industry'. It argues that closer ties are needed between the institutional study and professional practice of theatre and that the role of the dramaturg may be one way to bridge the divide between 'text-based theatre' and 'non-text-based peformance'.
