This article draws upon the collection and analysis of the results of Scotland's council elections in May 2012. It examines a number of features of those elections including voter turnout, patterns of candidature (such as party and gender), party support and seats won and lost. It also considers the use of the single transferable vote in these elections, the second in Scotland to use that electoral system.
