Mathews, Ian and Simpson, Diane and Crawford, Karin (2013) Social work practice learning: a guide for students. Sage Publications, London. ISBN UNSPECIFIED (In Press)
Full text not available from this repository. (Request a copy)Abstract
This book is intended to support undergraduate student social workers through their practice learning opportunities which may be undertaken at any level of their degree programme. The text will focus primarily and explicitly on the context of the first placement experience, although much of the material will be relevant to placement experiences across the whole of the undergraduate degree. Thus students who are new to the experience of assessed practice work, potentially at one of the most anxious periods of their undergraduate studies, will find the book supportive and informative. The text will acknowledge the complexity of different levels of placements and different ways in which placements are organised and assessed by universities, giving some examples and comparisons/references as appropriate. Within this there will be reference to further placements, particularly in the light of ‘preparation for…’ later study and ‘what this means for…’ later study. Furthermore, the book will develop UK-wide relevance, taking a broad approach to social work education as applicable across the UK countries. Where there are significant differences in policy, the book will acknowledge this, using examples, further references and case studies to clarify relevant issues.
