This chapter analyses the role of teacher observation schemes in universities and argues that, despite the fact that such schemes need to more clearly rooted in the philosophies and principles associated with reflective public practice, any such scheme will be constrained by an institutional framework where 'quality' is narrowly defined and thus not shared by those who engage in the teaching practice
