Abstract

In this paper I argue that the notion of having an authentic gendered body rests on the aesthetic judgment of the medicolegal systems representatives, medical practitioners. When bodies cannot be defined within the binary system they are situated within a pathalogical framework, which I argue is unsustainable vis a vis the Gender Recognition Act 2004. I explore the discursive gymnastics that allows a binary system for normative and normative bodies to co-exist in society.
