We live in a world of unseen and unheard elements, the ordinary places and sounds we pass by filtered out by our familiarity to them. Waiting rooms, boilers, post office, a squeaking door, corridors, a lift, offices, etc. these areas that have a ‘function’ for us and are universal.
The work uses this as a metaphor for the functional elements in society that, for example give safety, comfort, communication and reliability to our lives, the people and areas we take for granted. By transposing the space upon itself both in image and sound the work asks the audience to reinvest their observation of the space, to listen and look at the familiar within a different context.
