Abstract

Introduction on Mental Toughness (MT)
* A key construct in sport and exercise psychology associated with performing well in pressure situations.
* MT recently found related to performance times in cross-country running (Mahoney et al., 2014) and with behavioural perseverance (Gucciardi et al., 2016).
* Qualitative research has reported many recurring themes that exemplify MT such as perseverance, confidence, competitiveness, focused attention, determination, discipline and independence.
