Blathwayt kept ornithological diaries from 1897 until his death in 1953. Family papers reveal that, from time to time, he wrote up sections of these diaries into wildlife articles for the press. Often, this activity related to local papers in areas where he lived (Newark, Notts; Bristol). There are, however, examples from The Times.
