This overview of the developing role of the classroom assistant/member of support staff has three main themes. First, there is a discusion of the support role in relation to professionalism and the teaching profession. Second, the work looks at how support staff may tackle barriers ot learning in classrooms. Third, a case study of one LEA's practice is developed.
