Abstract

This keynote lecture describes developments in prehospital and ambulance quality improvement in the UK. Firstly it maps progress in the past decade focussing on the national structures for research and audit, the development of clinical indicators and the use of quality improvement methods to advance performance in key areas of clinical practice. Secondly, it discusses key areas of interest for current improvement studies. Finally it presents future research likely to affect quality of care and draws general lessons for improvement activities.
