Abstract

This essay examines a house project, which I recently worked on in the tropical forests of Nicaragua, in the context of my role as a lecturer in architecture. The design of the building reflects a particular view of architecture that has informed my approach to studio teaching and research. Through an exploration of the building, I aim to comment upon broader issues of the process of design that concern the synergy between creative collaboration and the location and setting of a project. Key to this relationship, I will argue, is the environment of the studio.
