Abstract

The comprehensive training options developed by the National Centre for Food Manufacturing (NCFM) in response to the growing demand for advanced food manufacturing and engineering skills are discussed. The NCFM has designed topical and industry-relevant degrees that can be studied on a part-time basis, by day-release, or by the increasingly popular distance learning. These delivery modes provide significant flexibility so that students can select a study route that best matches their work commitments and career aspirations. With options in Operations Management or Quality Assurance and Technical Management it takes 2.5 years to achieve a Foundation Degree in Food Manufacture whilst the BSc (Hons) Degree in Food Manufacture takes approximately 4.5 years. The NCFM offers Apprenticeships in Food and Drink Manufacture at Levels 2 and 3 and collaborates with companies geographically close to the NCFM. Aside from its range of academic programs, the NCFM also offers a wide range of business, research and consultancy services.
